At First Christian Church, we offer a combined service which contains elements from traditional and contemporary styles of worship. Our combined service, every Sunday morning, is at 9:00 AM in the Sanctuary. This service lasts approximately 75 minutes. If you are a visitor to First Christian Church, we suggest that you attend our combined service. After our combined service is our “Explore and Grow” hour, where you can find a study or discussion venue to expand your spirituality starting every Sunday at 10:30 AM.
Beginning sometime after Labor Day in 2013, an additional service called “Sunday Interactive” will be held every Sunday morning at 11:15 AM in Minnerly Hall. This new service is intended to be shorter and less formal than the earlier one. Seating will be around circular tables, and the music will be simple and lighter. Communion will be served by intinction, and the message will be conversational rather than sermon style. Participants will be invited to bring their coffee and their “gadgets” with them.
This new service and style is certainly not for everyone (although everyone is welcome). Our hope is to appeal to people who need or want to worship later in the day, as well as those who desire a more relaxed atmosphere. If you’re someone who has wished to ask questions or add your thoughts to the morning message, this may be for you. The central theme will still be scripturally based, but the participants will decide the direction it takes.
On occasion, we will take our worship experiences “on the road” or to an outdoor venue. These excursions tend to happen in the summer. We regularly have one service per year at the Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch on West US 34. We have historically had an outdoor worship service and picnic on the church grounds at various times in the summer. We also have a popular program called “Parables in the Park” on Wednesday evenings in the summer. It is a time to gather, read one of Jesus’ parables from the Bible, and then discuss how it relates to our lives in the 21st Century. Wherever we meet as disciples, however, we are graced with God’s presence and peace.
We appreciate you and look forward to welcoming you to our combined service and soon, our Sunday Interactive service. If there is anything we can do to enhance your worship experience at First Christian Church, please let any one of our members know. We’ll do the best we can to meet your needs. If you have suggestions as to how we can improve our worship experience, we would love to hear your thoughts!
